Meeting Namaggwa Joan - Winner of the Energies of Change Art Contest
My name is Namaggwa Joan, a painting artist and climate justice advocate from Uganda, born on the 2nd of February, 2002 and I am  22 years of age.
My first experience as an artist was at a very tender age when I was still in Junior school at about 5 years old when I got the desire to be creative and draw things.
My family was so supportive during this time and they got for me most of the material that I needed for practice and considering the work that I was producing at a very young age, they saw a vision in me and immediately knew that I was going to be a vast fine artist. Since then, I have been majoring in fine art in school.
As an artist, my work is driven by a desire to tell stories and convey messages through my art. I am deeply passionate about using my creativity to shed light on important social, political, and environmental issues, and to inspire others to take action and make a difference in the world.
Art helps me to connect to something greater than myself. I am constantly exploring new techniques and pushing the boundaries of my own artistic abilities in order to create work that is both meaningful and impactful.
One of the things I love most about my art is the way it allows me to experiment and take risks with my work. I am always exploring new techniques and approaches, whether it is using different brushes and tools, or experimenting with unusual color combinations and compositions. This sense of experimentation and exploration is an essential part of my creative process, and allows me to push the boundaries of my own artistic abilities.
Ultimately, my goal as an artist is to create works that are both beautiful and thought-provoking. I believe that art has the power to connect people across cultures and time, and that my work can serve as a means of bridging divides and fostering understanding. By capturing the beauty and complexity of the world around us in my works, I hope to inspire others to see the world in new and meaningful ways.
My artistic process begins with careful research and planning. I spend time studying and reflecting on the issues that inspire me, whether it is climate change, social justice, or human rights. I then use this information to create a preliminary sketch and plan for the work, incorporating symbolism, imagery, and metaphor to convey my message.
My works are not meant to be passive or decorative, but rather a call to action and a means of creating dialogue and engagement. Whether it is a painting that highlights the impact of climate change on our planet, or one that celebrates the strength and resilience of marginalized communities, my work is intended to provoke thought, spark conversation, and inspire change.
Ultimately, my goal as an artist is to use my creativity and talent to make a positive impact on the world and create art that resonates with others on a deep, emotional level because I believe that art has the power to connect people across cultures and time, and that it is an essential part of what makes us human.. I believe that art has the power to challenge our assumptions, broaden our perspectives, and inspire us to take action in our own lives. By telling stories and conveying messages through my works, I hope to encourage others to join me in creating a better, more just, and more sustainable world for all.
